Danish driver Allan Simonsen died following a crash at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on Saturday in the first driver fatality at the high-speed endurance event since 1997. Hydro Flask 21 Oz Standard Mouth . Race organizers said the 34-year-old Simonsen was taken to the hospital after his Aston Martin No. 95 crashed about 10 minutes after the start of the race. The car spun at high speed and skidded into the barrier at the Tertre Rouge corner where speeds reach up to 170 kph (105 mph). The violence of the impact showed as a tire from Simonsens car rolled on the track while a door hung open. Simonsen died at the hospital soon after arrival "due to his injuries," organizers said. "Tragically, and despite the best efforts of the emergency services in attendance, Allans injuries proved fatal," Aston Martin Racing said in a statement on its website. Sebastien Enjolras lost his life in pre-qualifying in 1997. The last driver fatality in the 24-hour race itself was Jo Gartner in 1986. The worst crash in Le Mans history occurred in 1955 when Pierre Leveghs Mercedes flew into the crowd, killing more than 80 spectators. Aston Martin, which has five Vantage V8 cars in the GTE-Pro and GTE-Am classes, will continue in the race "at the specific request" of Simonsens family and in tribute to the driver. "I would like to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the individuals, and families whose friends or loved ones were involved in todays terrible tragedy," Aston Martin Racing managing director John Gaw said. The safety car came out after the crash and the race was held up for nearly an hour to repair the guard rail. Simonsen was participating for the seventh time at the endurance race, which is won by the team that completes the most laps in 24 hours with up to three drivers alternating. He finished second in the GT2 class at Le Mans three years ago. He clocked the fastest time in qualifying on Thursday in the GTE-Am class. Jean Todt, the FIA president, and Pierre Fillon, president of Le Mans organizer the Automobile Club de lOuest, paid tribute to Simonsen. "Allan was an extremely talented and experienced sports car driver who had raced in every corner of the world and was highly respected by his peers and his team," they said in a joint statement. "For many in endurance racing, Allan was above all a good friend who displayed his passion for racing on and off the track. His loss will be felt by the FIA, the ACO and the greater motorsport family." Simonsen and Danish co-drivers Kristian Poulsen and Christoffer Nygaard were leading the GTE-Am class in the world endurance championship after topping their category at Silverstone in April and finishing second in Spa-Francorchamps last month. Audi held the top three spots after the sixth hour, followed by two Toyotas. IndyCar series leader Helio Castroneves tweeted: "Very sad to know about the fatal accident of Allan Simonsen on Le Mans today. Praying for him and (his) family." Tony Kanaan, another IndayCar driver, tweeted: "Such a tragic news on the passing of (at)AllanSimonsen. Sad day in motorsports again. Thoughts and prayers are with his family." There was second driver death on Saturday, in Germany. Two-time champion Wolf Silvester died because of "health problems" during the German VLN Endurance Racing Championship, race organizers said. Safety marshalls said Silvester, 55, apparently lost control of his Opel Astra OPC, and when they approached the stopped car on the track they found him sitting motionless in the seat. The dpa news agency reported that Silvester had a heart attack. INDIANAPOLIS -- Scott Tolzien and Stephen Morris stood together in the corner of the end zone at Tuesdays practice.Suddenly, the two healthy Indianapolis Colts quarterbacks were the center of attention as they went through the routine of taking snaps and fine-tuning their footwork. It may be the same way Thursday night. With Andrew Luck missing a second straight practice because he remains in the NFLs concussion protocol, Indy is preparing to dust off the backup plan for this weeks game against the Pittsburgh Steelers -- just in case.Last year we had musical chairs at the quarterback position and we were still able to win games, still able to play good football and thats what we have to do now, linebacker DQwell Jackson said. Weve finally got some momentum and well be ready for this challenge. If Luck cant go, it wont be exactly like last season when the Colts (5-5) plugged in former Super Bowl starter Matt Hasselbeck. This time, coach Chuck Paganos options appear to be relying on the rarely used Tolzien, the never-used Morris, some combination of the two or perhaps even running back Frank Gore out of the wildcat formation.None are ideal for a team looking to build momentum and improve their playoff chances, but they wont have a choice if Luck isnt cleared Wednesday .Tolziens most extensive work came in 2013 when he was promoted from the Green Bay Packers practice squad to the active roster after Aaron Rodgers broke his collarbone. He was pressed into action when backup Seneca Wallace was injured and started the next two games before being benched. Tolzien has thrown just one regular-season pass since 2013.Morris hasnt even done that much.In his third season in the league, the former University of Miami starter has never appeared in a regular-season game -- even for last seasons quarterback-needy Colts.Heck, he hasnt even been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster yet.I think Scotts no different than Matt. Matt was here a longer period of time. So were going to do what we have to do to win the football game, Pagano said Tuesday.Scott knows the playbook, Stephen knows the playbook. SSo well do whats necessary and see how theyre going to play us. The sixth came courtesy of Josh Freeman and Ryan Lindley pairing up in the season finale, less than a week after joining the team. The circumstances were sometimes difficult.Hasselbecks second win came on a Thursday night at Houston and on a week he had been ill.But it was the Freeman-Lindley combo that really turned heads. Both were signed in the lead up to the season finale and with neither knowing the playbook, Pagano split up their duties. Freeman was instructed to learn the regular offense and handed the two-minute drill to Lindley. It worked perfectly as the Colts pulled out a 30-24 victory over Tennessee. But Pagano didnt drop any hints Tuesday about the Colts plans or even whether Luck had been ruled out.Still in the protocol, Pagano said, updating Lucks status before being asked about the plan without Luck. We have options. All the Colts can do now is get ready for Pittsburgh (5-5), hope Luck will be cleared and prepare like he wont. Its my job, Tolzien said. Maybe its a little bit different, but thats why you always try to prepare like a starter, no matter what, so that you are always ready to go and you dont have to be in panic mode if that happens.Game notes Safety Clayton Geathers (concussion) and cornerback Vontae Davis (ankle) also did not practice Tuesday. ... Defensive tackle Art Jones (knee and ankle), outside linebacker Robert Mathis (rest), cornerback Rashaan Melvin (back) and cornerback Patrick Robinson (groin) all were full participants at practice.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '
